Since the advent of hard, scratch-resistant clear coats, a growing number of detailers prefer to use smaller 5.5 inch pads on their dual action polishers. The thinner, compact pads allow the polisher to work more efficiently by keeping the pad moving under pressure. The thinner pads can also give the operator more of a feel for the pad's motion. The size of Lake Country 5.5 x 7/8 inch Flat Foam Pads make them an ideal choice for swirl removal on all paints, particularly hard clear coats.

Lake Country 5.5 x 7/8 inch Flat Foam Pads are made of imported German foam that reduces heat build-up and spontaneous heat transfer between the polisher and the pad. More pad-to-paint contact allows you to work more efficiently to get the desired results. The beveled edge lessens the risk of cookie-cutting because there are no stiff edges to dig into the paint if you accidentally tilt the polisher. Yellow Cutting Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad
Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and heavily swirled finishes. Always follow this pad with a white or gray pad and a fine polish to refine the paint until it is smooth.

Orange Light Cutting Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad
Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

White Heavy Polishing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad
Less dense foam formula for the application of cleaner waxes, one step polishes, or "all in one" type products. This pad has very light cutting power, so it's perfect for pre-wax cleaners and finishing polishes.

Green Flat Polishing/AIO Foam 6.5 inch Pad
Use this foam to apply one-step cleaner waxes. It is a balance of polishing and finishing that is perfect for all-in-one product application.

Blue Light Polishing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad
This pad is not as dense as the green polishing pad and provides little cutting ability. Generally used to polish to perfect, this pad will leave a high shine on the surface. Perfect for use with a finishing glaze, last-step polish, and some all-in-one cleaner polishes.

Black Finishing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad
Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. This pad has no cut and is perfect to apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes.

For optimum results, it’s best to own each type of pad. Compounding with a yellow or orange pad may leave a light haze. You may need a white or gray pad to refine the paint to its original shine and texture.

We suggest using these smaller pads with a dual action polisher equipped with a 5 inch flexible backing plate for safe yet effective polishing.
